The Maskelleros

The Maskelleros are a fun live Band consisting of Alan Maskell ( Guitar and Vocals) , Pete Young (Keyboards and Vocals) and Gus Mills ( Bass) with the occasional addition of percussion .

Formed after Alans’ return from the USA , the three ex-members of Ulterior Motives would get together a few times a year to play in small pubs and events , playing a mix of original songs and their unique take on some well known covers .

With all three of them currently back in Oxfordshire The Maskelleros will be playing more regularily bringing their brand of musicality , fun and surprises to a wider audience.

Alan Maskell is a singer songwriter , originally from Bath, who has recently moved backed to Oxfordshire. He originally started playing with Pete Young back in the 1980’s when they both moved to Wantage to work for the Metal Box Company .They shared a mutual interest in Recording and released a single , “Seventeen”, together under the name Scherezade .
They were playing live in a Wine bar in Wantage when a young Gus came up to them and told them they needed a bass player offering his services .

They have played together on and off since that time when possible interrupted by Alan and Pete living away for periods, but as the band Ulterior Motives ( with a number of different drummers) played numerous gigs over a 30 year period. They recorded and released two albums as Ulterior Motives , “Rooks” and “Simple Schemes” and finally called it a day in 2014 when Alan moved to the USA .

Since his return they have got together as a more Acoustic trio to play the occasional gig and since Covid have performed under the Maskelleros name .They are a more lighthearted band blending their original material with unusual interpretations and covers.

An Evening with the Maskelleros is one to remember !
